PATTON'S TANKS CROSS EDISTO RIVER IN BLITZ TO LIBERATE CHARLESTON!
WALTERBORO, April 29, 1942 (AP) - In a dawn attack, General George S. Patton's armored divisions crossed the Edisto River, driving north like a juggernaut to free Charleston, South Carolina from the German invaders.
Kicking off two days ago, Operation Hammerfall initially drove Field Marshal Erwin Rommel’s troops reeling back towards the ocean, but the Germans rallied and settled into new defensive lines.
Patton’s tanks are slicing behind those lines, threatening to surround the enemy, in a blitzkrieg like the Germans unleashed on France and England.
Every phase of the operation, its size, scope and other facts, is the result of weeks of secret planning. Now, the careful military preparations are paying off and America will soon be free again.
